Fifty Not So Gold, Goldfish
Project Statement
My first experience understanding the delicate balance of an ecosystem was through my father’s hobby of keeping aquariums. I watched my father tend to the fish, cleaning the tank, monitoring the water, all to maintain the perfect balance of organisms within the enclosure. Any disturbance to the ecosystem could set off a thread of health issues for the fish and other aquarium inhabitants. To this day, the goldfish and other aquatic creatures in my artwork represent the exquisite ecosphere we inhabit, and the attention we must devote to maintain and protect it. In the series "Fifty Not So Gold, Goldfish," I explored a different color of paint each day. I recreated the same goldfish using a different Liquitex Soft Body acrylic paint color for each artwork. The installation is tied together by using a similar composition in each tile, whereas biodiversity is reflected through the rainbow of differing hues.
Each painting is 6 x 6 inches and was created using Liquitex Soft Body Acrylic paint on primed wood panels.
